(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th) As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches midsummer, the days clear and become longer. To promote the excellent traditional Chinese culture and allow students to experience the unique charm of traditional festivals, Bandar Seri Begawan Chinese Middle School organized a week-long Dragon Boat Festival themed handicraft activity starting from May 26th for students from grades one to six. Students from each grade used their unique creativity and dexterous hands to interpret the charm of Dragon Boat Festival customs, rejuvenating the traditional festival with new vitality.
First-grade students embarked on a creative journey with "Coloring for the Dragon Boat Festival." Holding colored pencils, the children freely painted on blank zongzi patterns. Amidst the collision of bright and lively colors, each page of fun-filled Dragon Boat Festival paintings came to life on paper.
The five-colored rope is a symbol of warding off evil and bringing blessings during the Dragon Boat Festival. Second-grade students selected five-color threads in red, yellow, blue, white, and black, and by techniques of weaving, wrapping, and twisting, they wove beautiful blessings into the knots.
Third-grade students focused on colorful egg painting, drawing cute zongzi on the smooth eggshells. In the fourth-grade craft area, students made handcrafted black awning boats using materials such as card paper and bells, folding boat bodies and writing blessings, with the exquisite little boats carrying the festive flavor of the Jiangnan water towns during the Dragon Boat Festival.
Fifth and sixth-grade students created handcrafted Dragon Boat Festival dragons, from making the dragon's body to painting the dragon's head and tail, bringing the majestic Dragon Boat Festival dragon to "life" with its powerful cultural grandeur.
This handicraft activity combines traditional culture with practical experience, not only exercising the students' hands-on skills but also deepening their understanding of the cultural connotations of the Dragon Boat Festival, allowing traditional culture to take root and flourish on campus.
Principal Zhang Guijuan stated: "The Dragon Boat Festival carries the cultural memories of the Chinese nation. Through such activities, we hope students will feel the charm of traditional culture through hands-on practice. On this occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival, I wish all teachers, students, and parents a peaceful festival and family happiness. May the essence of Chinese culture be passed down through generations."
