Former Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey says he has been worn down by years of sexual assault lawsuits. Although he was ultimately not charged, the financial toll has left him bankrupt and forced to wander without a home. Now, he just hopes directors will give him a chance to earn a living.
The 66-year-old Spacey won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the film American Beauty and has starred in numerous acclaimed movies and TV series, earning widespread praise for his acting. However, starting in 2017, he was hit by consecutive sexual assault accusations, leading to years entangled in court cases. Although he was acquitted in 2023, the high litigation costs had already devastated his finances.
He told The Daily Telegraph that the massive expenses related to the sexual assault cases cost him his property. He now drifts between hotels and Airbnb rentals without a permanent home, but believes he'll eventually make a comeback in the film industry.
Spacey said that over the past seven years, the expenditures have been astronomical, causing a severe shortfall: "I now live in hotels and Airbnbs. Wherever the work is, that's where I go. I am indeed homeless," and his financial situation is "not very good."
Although he was ultimately acquitted, Hollywood does not yet seem ready to welcome him back. Spacey stated that he is in talks with several influential figures in the film world, just waiting for someone to make the first move. He hopes renowned directors like Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino will get in touch; then everything could be resolved. “I believe that day will come.”
