Angela Tong has recently been nominated for the first time for Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her performance in the movie version of ‘A Step into the Past’, boosting her popularity once again. Last month, she just turned 50. In a recent interview on journalist Natalie Fong’s channel, she revealed that her views on relationships in real life are as carefree as her character ‘Sin Yau’ in ‘A Step into the Past.’ She also rarely talked about her past two relationships.
Looking back, Angela Tong’s romantic path has been full of twists and turns, and she used to be described as a ‘jerk magnet’. Both of her relationships before marriage reportedly ended due to alleged infidelity by her partners. The most well-known was her 9-year relationship with Steven Ma, which ended when he fell for someone else. Afterwards, she was rumored to be in a secret relationship with Kenneth Ma, but it ended after it was revealed he was secretly married with a child. However, Angela chose to face it with grace and eventually married in 2013, finding happiness.
During the interview, Natalie Fong did not mention any names and simply asked: ‘Every time your news comes out, there are always two men’s names that appear alongside. Do you find that troublesome?’ Angela responded openly: ‘Being in the entertainment industry, this is bound to happen. My principle is that I don’t want to interfere with anyone else’s family. Honestly, it’s always others who bring it up, not me bringing it up to get attention.’
She stated bluntly that although she loved passionately when she was younger, once it was time to break up, she would forget quickly and was very clear and decisive—she described it as even ‘ruthless.’ She believes breaking up is part of life’s journey and if it drags on, with mutual insults, even the most basic beautiful memories will be erased, meaning the youthful years are wasted. She emphasized: ‘Women must respect themselves and live with dignity; only then will the rest of their life be more brilliant.’
