KUALA PILAH, July 25 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has instructed the Community Development Department (KEMAS) director-general to ensure that all key positions in the department have permanent status in order to strengthen the service scheme and safeguard the welfare of its personnel.

Ahmad Zahid who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said the effort also needs to include improvements to the KEMAS teacher service scheme, including offering more attractive salaries and allowances.

"I have instructed the director-general of KEMAS (Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man) to take care of the new service scheme for all KEMAS teachers with more attractive salaries and allowances.

"So far, the service scheme approved by the Public Service Department (PSD) has placed KEMAS in contract positions. I have also instructed the director-general of KEMAS to make all key positions in KEMAS permanent positions,” he said.

He said this when officiating the KEMAS Skills Day and the Negeri Sembilan Alpha Gen&Talent@KEMAS Programme, which was also attended by Hanafiah, here today.

Ahmad Zahid also described KEMAS as one of the departments under his ministry that is most active in reaching out to the community, and continues to prove its capabilities in human capital development since its establishment over six decades ago.

He said the international recognition received by KEMAS through early childhood education proved the high commitment of its teachers and staff, despite facing various constraints.

He said that although there may be KEMAS classes that are very modest in terms of facilities, the commitment shown by the teachers and staff of KEMAS proved that the agency is capable of achieving progress and gaining recognition at the world level.

“It seems that these KEMAS classes are small, some are in poor condition, and there maybe KEMAS teachers who are slow, but the commitment shown by KEMAS teachers and KEMAS staff has received world recognition as a sign that we can move forward,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said the organisation of today's programme showed KEMAS' concern not only for students and teachers, but also involved parents and the local community.

“This means that for six decades KEMAS has been at the forefront of society, it has shown that we should never underestimate the capabilities of KEMAS throughout the country,” he said.
