(Kuching, 13th) A fire broke out this morning at a workers’ hostel in front of Chong Hwa Middle School on Jalan Peace, Kuching. A temporary hostel with 10 rooms was destroyed by the blaze, but fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
According to a report issued by the Fire and Rescue Department, authorities received the alert at 7:32 a.m. this morning, immediately dispatching personnel from Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Department to the scene. Personnel from Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang Fire Stations also provided backup to carry out fire-fighting operations.
It is understood that the affected structure was a non-permanent workers’ dormitory measuring about 50 feet by 50 feet, with 10 rooms in total. The entire building was destroyed in the fire.
Firefighters used three hoses, each 300 feet long, and four water jets to carry out the fire-fighting work, drawing water from fire engine pumps and nearby hydrants.
The main focus of the rescue operation was to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings, and the flames were successfully brought under control by 7:56 a.m.
Currently, firefighters are still on site conducting mop-up operations and cooling efforts to ensure all embers are extinguished, as well as investigating the cause of the fire.
