(Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) A 48-year-old Bangladeshi man was fined BND 16,640 by the Magistrate’s Court for possessing prohibited cigarettes.
The court was told that on August 21, 2023, Mizanur was arrested at the Kampong Junjongan Industrial Area while carrying 22 cartons of various types of cigarettes. He was apprehended by the police, and the case was later handed over to the Customs Department for prosecution.
He was charged under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006 for possessing prohibited goods, and appeared before Magistrate Sharifah on August 26, 2025.
The judge ordered him to pay the fine, failing which he will be sentenced to 13 months in jail. All confiscated cigarettes have been forfeited and will be destroyed by the authorities.
