U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent believes that the United States has "the conditions to reach an agreement with China."
In an X post on the 1st, which was subsequently deleted, Bessent wrote: "This week's negotiations in Stockholm advanced our dialogue with China. I believe we have created the conditions to reach an agreement that will benefit both of our great nations."
He also said: "I am optimistic about the prospects for future developments."
A spokesperson for the U.S. Treasury pointed out that Bessent's post needed to be republished because the image in the post had not uploaded correctly.
The spokesperson stated that the wording in the post was consistent with Bessent's statements in interviews with various major media outlets this week.
On July 31, Bessent said in an interview with CNBC that the U.S. has the conditions to reach a trade agreement with China, but the negotiations are "not 100% complete yet."
He also told CNBC that during the two days of trade talks with the Chinese side this week in Stockholm, the U.S. negotiators "stood their ground based on reason."
