Slovenia has announced a complete ban on arms trade with Israel due to the Gaza war.
The Slovenian government issued a statement saying that it is the first European country to ban the import, export, and transit of weapons to and from Israel.
The statement pointed out that Slovenia acted "alone" because the European Union "has been unable to take concrete measures due to internal divisions and a lack of unity."
The statement said that during the devastating Gaza war, people are dying due to systemic deprivation of humanitarian aid, and it is the duty of every responsible country to take action, even if it means getting ahead of others.
The statement noted that since the conflict in October 2023, the Slovenian government has not issued any licenses for exporting military weapons and equipment to Israel.
Slovenia has often criticized Israel over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and recognized the State of Palestine last year.
