On the 14th, the Office of Philippine Vice President Sara released a video criticizing the administration for its lack of respect towards the Senate, stating that the government’s actions are deepening political divisions.

Sara stated that the incident involving Senator and former National Police Chief Dela Rosa on the night of the 13th in the Senate reflects tense relations between the executive and legislative branches. She said the government’s actions are intensifying political divides and causing public concern about the country’s political direction.

She said: “The disregard shown by authorities towards the Senate institution is both saddening and infuriating.”

On the night of the 13th, Philippine law enforcement and military personnel entered the Senate building. Gunshots and panicked shouts were heard inside the building. Later, President Marcos Jr. convened a high-level emergency meeting.

On the other hand, on the 14th, Philippine Senate President Cayetano stated that Senator Dela Rosa, whom authorities intended to arrest, had already left the Senate building.

He also announced that the Senate would formally establish an impeachment court on May 18th to begin hearing the impeachment case against Sara.

Previously, on the 11th, the House of Representatives had already passed the impeachment case against Sara. She is accused of corruption, plotting assassination, inciting rebellion, abuse of power, and other charges.
