KULAI, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The agenda to empower the country's film industry is among the main focuses of the Ministry of Communications through Budget 2027, said its Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching.
She said that the details of Budget 2027 involving the Ministry of Communications could only be announced after an official meeting with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) scheduled to take place next week.
However, she informed that some initial informal discussions had been held with MOF regarding the ministry's wishes.
"One of the things we have presented to the MOF... not in the form of an official meeting but there were a few discussions, where we hope that we can provide greater support to the film industry in Malaysia.
"So we are working on it, so I don't want to make an announcement first because I want to make sure (first) when we can (later). But it was one of the requests or side meeting talks we had discussed how we could provide support to the local film industry," she said.
She told reporters after inspecting the construction works of Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Kampung Baru Sengkang, here, today.
Asked to comment on the amount of allocation that the ministry will be requesting in Budget 2027, Teo said the matter was subject to the government's financial capacity.
According to her, the ministry's priority is to ensure the introduction of various effective policies to support the growth of the industry ecosystem.
"For us, it is how we can go through various policies to ensure that the industries, some of which are under the orange economy, can be maintained and also continue to contribute to our Gross Domestic Product (GDP)," she said.
Touching on today's inspection, Teo said the temple management had made an application under the Non-Muslim Houses of Worship (RIBI) allocation in 2024 and received an allocation of RM248,560 in 2025.
Teo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kulai, also presented food baskets to 20 B40 families and needy groups in the area in collaboration with the temple management.
