The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy has, starting from the evening of the 13th, approved a batch of Chinese ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on the 14th, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard pointed out that, according to Iran’s decision, some Chinese vessels have been permitted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with Iran’s transit management regulations. This passage commenced from the evening of the 13th, following a request from China and “consensus reached regarding Iran’s management regulations.”

According to Iran’s state television, “more than 30 ships” have been approved for passage, though it did not specify whether all of them are of Chinese registry.

Since February 28th, after the United States and Israel went to war with Iran, Iran has largely blocked shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. In peacetime, roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas transits the Strait of Hormuz.

Indian Merchant Ship Attacked

On the 14th, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that an India-flagged merchant vessel was attacked near the Oman coast section of the Strait of Hormuz, but all crew members are safe.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated in a statement its regret that merchant ships and sailors continue to be targets of attacks.

Nevertheless, the statement did not specify the name of the attacked vessel or the identity of the attackers, only noting that all Indian crew members on board are safe.

UK-based Windward Maritime Analysis Company stated on social media on the 14th that an India-flagged cargo ship allegedly sank after being attacked by a drone near Oman’s waters in the Strait of Hormuz, but all crew members were successfully rescued.
