The British newspaper The Independent recently analyzed films produced since 2000 to select the 60 best film actors of the 21st century. Several Asian actors made the list, including Irrfan Khan from Life of Pi at 41st place, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai at 21st, and Song Kang-ho, the star of Parasite, ranked 7th.

The top three on the list are all acting giants: 3rd place goes to Daniel Day-Lewis, renowned for his role in There Will Be Blood; 2nd place is Emma Stone, a two-time Oscar winner recognized for La La Land; and the top spot is awarded posthumously to Philip Seymour Hoffman, who earned numerous accolades for his outstanding performance in Capote.

Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, the only Chinese actor on the list, demonstrates his unparalleled international stature. He has won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor six times and the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actor three times, making him the most decorated actor in both competitions. Tony Leung's representative works since 2000 include Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood for Love, Andrew Lau and Alan Mak's Infernal Affairs, and Ang Lee's Lust, Caution, all of which are considered classics.

This list further highlights Tony Leung's unique status in the global film industry, as well as the rise and contributions of Asian actors in 21st-century cinema.
