Yousheng's Apology Takes Effect, Indecency Case Gains Probation

Published at Dec 31, 2024 12:34 pm
Taiwanese artist Yousheng has been under the spotlight for a case where he was accused of forcibly kissing and straddling a female assistant 8 years ago, involving charges of forced indecency. Initially denying the crime, Yousheng later expressed a willingness to reconcile with the victim, which was refused. In the first trial, the Taipei District Court sentenced Yousheng to 8 months in prison for forced indecency. After the case was appealed, the Taiwan High Court upheld the original judgment on December 31, but changed it to 5 years of probation, requiring Yousheng to pay 2 million Taiwan dollars (approximately 270,000 Malaysian Ringgit) to the public treasury. The judgment is still open for appeal.

Yousheng's manager, when interviewed by the United Daily News, stated that he might not have received the judgment yet, and it is still uncertain whether he will appeal again. Currently, Yousheng is focusing on organic agriculture and rarely discusses the case publicly.

Starting from September 2024, Yousheng has become active again on social media, sharing "friendly agrarian stories" and uploading positive photos, with captions stating, "Many changes are actually for the children." Although the main subject in the photos is not him, the text seems to subtly convey his mindset. Reactions from netizens are polarized: some support his efforts to do good, while others sarcastically comment, "When will he actually serve his sentence?" Despite the ongoing controversy, his Facebook fan page still retains 1.23 million followers.

Regarding the latest High Court judgment, whether Yousheng will continue to appeal, the manager stated that the paper version of the judgment usually arrives a few days late, and they will respond after confirming. Additionally, the manager revealed that Yousheng is currently busy with organic farming. Yousheng himself, through his manager, expressed: "Respect for the court's judgment."
