Hacken Lee Returns to Malaysia for Concert, Proudly Shares Eldest Son Directs MV

After a 7-year hiatus, Hacken Lee returned to Malaysia for a concert, and at his first show he shared a touching father-son moment. While performing his new song “Your Love Won’t Return,” he revealed that the music video was personally directed by his eldest son, who is currently studying film in the United States. Hoping to encourage his son, he joked about 'embarrassing' himself in front of all the Malaysian 'uncles and elders,' inviting the live audience to give a thundering round of applause at the end of the song and record it to show his son. Seeing the enthusiastic response from the crowd, Lee couldn't hide his fatherly pride, jokingly adding, "Maybe in the next few decades, all my MVs will be shot by him!"

On the 25th and 26th, Hacken Lee held two consecutive nights of the “Hacken Lee Malaysia Concert 2026” at Genting World Arena of Stars, both shows selling out completely. After a seven-year absence from Malaysia, he performed a series of classic golden hits like “Unchanging for Life,” “The Flower Guardian,” “Tall Girl,” “Flying Flower,” “Half Moon Serenade,” “Red Sun,” “Together Must Marry,” and “Addicted to Love.” Among these, “Unchanging for Life” and “Red Sun” led the entire audience in massive singalongs, making for an electric atmosphere.

Before singing his new song “Your Love Won’t Return,” Hacken Lee shared the story behind the song, revealing that when his eldest son returned to Hong Kong from abroad last Christmas, he took the initiative to shoot the MV for him. Lee especially asked the audience to encourage his son by applauding after the MV was played and joked that he would record this moment to show his son. As the song ended, the audience burst into thunderous applause, and Lee, visibly gratified, said: “He still needs more practice opportunities; maybe in the coming decades, all my MVs will be done by him.” Although he joked afterwards that he was just kidding, his pride as a father was unmistakable.

Joking That Fans Are 'Only in Their 20s'

In addition to heartwarming moments, Hacken Lee also showed his trademark humor. He fondly recalled his first performance at Genting in the 1990s, mentioning that during rehearsal, actual clouds drifted into the venue—'so it really is Genting (meaning 'above the clouds').' He also joked that back then Genting “even had mice,” but now it’s become magnificent. Seeing his fans still so enthusiastic, he teased those who have been supporting him all the way: “Those of you who liked me since I debuted must be 'only in your twenties' now, right?” His witty remark made the entire crowd burst out laughing. Lee also joked that the more passionate the audience, the more energetic he becomes. When a fan gave him a red packet during his performance, he was bewildered and asked, “Is this really for me? Chinese New Year has long passed!” Happily accepting the gift, he added playfully, “This is a Chinese virtue. It doesn’t have to be New Year’s—if you feel like you need to, just give it to me. If anyone asks, just say it brings luck and peace at home!” His comments had the whole audience roaring with laughter.

Beloved Protégé Wu Keyue is a 'Durian Superfan'

This concert also invited Wu Keyue, champion of 2021's “The Voice of China” and Lee’s protégé, as guest singer. Together, they performed “Pampered by Millions,” “Still in Love,” and “Love Someone.” Hacken Lee gentlemanly escorted Wu Keyue to the stage wings to interact with the audience. Wu, a huge durian lover, joked that this was her third visit to Malaysia, and she gorged herself on durian every time, praising Malaysia as a “durian paradise.” Lee, feigning fear, dramatically jumped back, leaving the audience in stitches.

During the encore, Hacken Lee joked that after singing for over two hours, he'd sung all the fans’ favorites: “Now, may I sing one song that I want to sing the most?” He playfully pleaded with the fans: “Could you bear with me for four minutes?” He then performed his personal favorite non-hit “The Man of the Play.” After finishing, he surprised the audience with more songs, “Concert Hall Auditorium” and “Just Want You to Know,” giving fans another round of enjoyment.

As the concert drew to a close, before singing “Addicted to Love,” Lee sentimentally noted that his first performance in Malaysia was around 1992 or 1993—over 30 years ago. “I don’t know when I’ll be back next time, so I want to remember the face of every one of you tonight, and the cheering tonight.” He also thanked his Malaysian fans for their constant support over the years, bringing about a long and sincere round of applause.
