Man Enters Forbidden Zone, Hit by Bullet During Live Ammunition Firing Exercise

(Singapore, 17th) A man in Singapore intruded into a restricted area and was accidentally injured by a bullet from a live ammunition training exercise approximately 2.3 kilometers away. Fortunately, he is not in critical condition.
The Straits Times reported that on the 16th, the Singapore Police Force issued a statement saying that at approximately 11:55 PM on the 15th, the police received a notification from the National University Hospital about a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound and a bullet lodged in his lower left back.
Investigations revealed that at around 11:40 AM that day, the man was cycling with friends in the forest area near the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. This location is between the Upper Seletar Reservoir and Upper Peirce Reservoir.
Authorities pointed out that the incident site is a public forbidden area with warning signs reminding people not to enter the live firing area unauthorized.
His friends later took him to the hospital.
Preliminary investigations showed that the Singapore Armed Forces were conducting a live ammunition firing exercise at Yishun Range on the day of the incident.
The location of the incident is near this range.
The police and armed forces are still investigating, and currently, there is no suspicion of foul play.
On Monday, the Ministry of Defence also released a statement acknowledging the incident of the man being shot and has suspended live-firing exercises at Yishun Range.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident area had already been designated as a live firing zone of the armed forces. At the time of the incident, the armed forces were authorized to conduct live firing exercises at Yishun 500m Range, about 2.3 kilometers away.
"The armed forces are working closely with the police and other relevant agencies to further investigate the details of the incident. As a precautionary measure, all live firing exercises at Yishun 500m Range have been temporarily suspended."
The Ministry of Defence also reminded the public that, according to the Military Exercises Act, entering designated military live firing zones unauthorized is prohibited to ensure personal safety.
