(Bandar Seri Begawan, 23rd) The Jide Care Association recently held a dual-lecture cultural event at its 'Cultural Salon', combining both rationality and sentimentality, tradition and modernity. The event invited local Chinese lyric and music creation enthusiast Lin Longze to share his creative philosophy and works on the theme of 'Brunei Ballads', attracting many people from the cultural sector, music lovers, and teachers and students to attend.

The atmosphere at the event was warm and lively. At the opening, Lin Longze thanked the Jide Care Association for the invitation and expressed his honor at being able to share his creative journey at such a cultural gathering.

He said that as a Chinese song creation enthusiast from Brunei, he has long used music and words as his main forms of expression, and has gradually developed a creative direction called 'Brunei Ballads'.

He explained that 'Brunei Ballads' is a form of creation that uses Chinese music as its medium to capture the emotions, stories, culture, and voices of contemporary youth in Brunei.

He said, 'Brunei Ballads' does not pursue grand narratives but instead focuses on a simple sentence, a single scene from daily life, or even the lingering of a certain emotion. 'Creation is not for perfection, but for leaving a trace.'

During the sharing session, Lin Longze also presented several pieces of text and conceptual works, including "My Alma Mater", "Brunei My Hometown", "Queue Song", "If", and "Boundary", giving the audience a preliminary sense of the embryonic form of 'Brunei Ballads.'

He frankly admitted that this creative direction is still in its growth stage, and that he himself is still constantly learning and exploring.

In addition, he also demonstrated on the spot how to use computers and related equipment to assist in music composition, enabling attendees to understand the practical combination of technology and art in modern music creation.

He encouraged more local young people to engage in creation, to use music to record stories and voices unique to Brunei, and looked forward to more opportunities to interact with cultural and musical figures in the future—for the collective enrichment of Brunei's Chinese cultural creative scene.

At the same time, 'Cultural Salon' lecturer Chen Renxiang used the character 'bow' (弓) as a starting point to give an in-depth analysis of the origin of Chinese characters and the genes of civilization. He also incorporated the concept of 'Brunei Ballads' and introduced popular online lyrical and musical works closely related to Brunei.

Chen Renxiang pointed out that exploring the origin of Chinese characters is to search for the genes of civilization; interpreting the structure of characters is to let the words write their own autobiography; analyzing the evolution of word meanings is to promote cultural civilization.

Taking the character 'bow' (弓) as an example, he discussed it from oracle bone inscriptions and bronze inscriptions, further revealing that the structures of characters like 'marquis' (侯), 'prepare' (备), and 'short' (短) are all closely connected to bow and arrow culture. This demonstrates that Chinese characters are not abstract symbols but rather concrete reflections of ancient people's life experiences and technological civilizations.

He called on literary workers and creators to value precise mastery of textual abilities in order to truly understand the roots of culture.

The Jide Care Association stated that 'Cultural Salon' will continue to host cultural sharing events with both depth and breadth in the future, promote cross-disciplinary dialogue among literature, history, art, and music, and welcomes people from all walks of life to participate in learning and communication.
