Humanise humanity, knowledge our light, values our guide: DPM

KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said Sarawak holds great potential for its Muslim community, educators, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and non-governmental individuals (NGIs) to act as bridges of humanity in the state’s plural society.

“We are not merely speaking of dakwah in a narrow sense, but dakwah that humanises humanity upholding the values of compassion, wisdom and ethics across all fields: education, economy, social, and politics.

“Therefore, I wish to suggest that one of the efforts that should be championed — not only in Sarawak but throughout Malaysia, particularly by educators and those involved in education — is to revisit the role of tasawuf in the curriculum.

“Education should not only focus on tauhid and fiqh, but also on tasawuf, which must be revived to awaken the spiritual essence of humanity itself,” he said.

He said this when officiating the Fikrah Siddiq Fadzil Sarawak Zone Seminar 2.0 at Sarawak State Library on Saturday (Nov 8).

Fadillah added that tasawuf is often misunderstood, leading to the neglect of human values embedded within it.

“Therefore, we must restore it, as it is tasawuf that defines the essence of humanity within our society — it guides the moral dimension of fiqh itself.

“In the Malaysia MADANI era, our responsibility is not only to build the nation’s physical progress but also to nurture the soul of the nation.

“We must return to the foundation — to humanise humanity, make knowledge our light, and values our guide,” he added.

He urged that the seminar not remain merely an academic discourse but evolve into a movement of knowledge and action.

“Let us continue to carry the torch of Siddiq Fadzil’s thought — a flame that unites, enlightens, and humanises.

“Our duty, therefore, is to restore the spirit of humanity within the current tide of progress.

“We must nurture a generation that is not only intellectually intelligent but also spiritually enlightened and morally upright,” he said.
