Hong Kong Director of Immigration Au Joon-fung emphasized on Sunday (July 6) that Hong Kong residents who have moved overseas will not be intercepted upon their return to Hong Kong as long as they have not broken the law.
According to reports from Sing Tao Headline and RTHK, Au Joon-fung, speaking on an RTHK program, addressed concerns from Hong Kong people who have moved overseas since 2019 and are worried about being questioned by the Immigration Department upon returning. He stated that Hong Kong residents enjoy freedom of entry and exit, and as long as they have not committed any illegal acts, they will not be intercepted or specially questioned. There will be no problem returning to Hong Kong.
Au also mentioned that in the first five months of this year, more than 12,000 people were denied entry, accounting for 0.062% of the approximately 20 million visitors in the same period. Reasons for refusal included working illegally, holding suspected forged travel documents, and other suspicious purposes for entering.
