On the 8th, Thailand and Cambodia expressed their appreciation for Malaysia's efforts in brokering the Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire consensus and in successfully convening the Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) between the two countries. Both sides stated that they will continue to work closely with Malaysia and other relevant parties to ensure the comprehensive and effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

On the 8th, Thai Government House spokesperson Chaiyarit stated that Acting Prime Minister Puttan welcomed the results of the Special Meeting of the General Border Committee between the two countries held in Malaysia on August 7.

Puttan pointed out that the outcome of this meeting is in line with the consensus reached between Thailand and Cambodia on July 28, and will help promote the realization of the ceasefire, end disturbances and violence along the border of the two countries, and restore normal life for people in the border areas. The Thai government will continue to adhere to the position of resolving issues through sincere bilateral dialogue, striving to handle disputes in a peaceful and sustainable manner, and strictly following the principles of international law, the ASEAN Charter, and the United Nations Charter.

At the same time, Puttan expressed gratitude to the Malaysian government as the host for its organization of the meeting, and showed appreciation for the active participation of the United States and China as observers in the meeting.

Meanwhile, on the 8th, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Tea Seiha sent a letter to Malaysian Minister of Defense Mohamad Khaled Nordin, thanking Malaysia, as the rotating chair of ASEAN, for its outstanding contributions in facilitating the Special Meeting of the General Border Committee between the two countries.

Tea Seiha stated that the Malaysian side has played an important role in achieving the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement on July 28 this year, as well as in enhancing mutual trust and the peaceful resolution of the Cambodia-Thailand border situation. Malaysia’s active coordination and promotion have not only helped ease tensions between Cambodia and Thailand and prevent further casualties, but have also laid the foundation for lasting peace and stability in the region.
