(Bandar Seri Begawan, 10th) The Bandar Police Station of the Royal Brunei Police Force successfully uncovered a smuggling case of prohibited items on Thursday evening and seized a large quantity of alcoholic beverages.
According to a statement released by the police, during a patrol that evening, the patrol team noticed that two individuals in a government-rented lorry were acting suspiciously and attempted to intercept the vehicle for inspection. However, the suspects in the vehicle did not comply with the instructions and fled, leading to a chase. The vehicle finally entered the Kg Menengah area, where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the nearby forest.
Upon inspecting the abandoned lorry, the police found several black plastic bags containing a large quantity of canned and bottled alcoholic drinks. An initial count revealed a total of 862 cans of beer and 48 bottles of spirits.
The police have taken the lorry and the seized prohibited items back to the Bandar Police Station, and the case has been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and appropriate action.
The Royal Brunei Police Force emphasized that the patrol and enforcement efforts in border areas will be continuously strengthened to severely crack down on all kinds of illegal activities to ensure national security. They also remind the public not to engage in any activities that violate the law.
