KUCHING: State and federal civil servants continue to provide an effective administrative backbone in carrying out government policies.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said their combined effort had enabled Sarawak to move its key initiatives forward, particularly in areas involving education, health, and digital transformation.
He said this reflected the strength of administrative cooperation between both sides as Sarawak moved towards a more integrated and lean governance model.
“Take the education sector, for example. Many federal officers worked closely with us in addressing dilapidated schools, and the same cooperation can be seen with the Health Department.
“At the state level, our own civil service has been able to adapt to the transformations we introduced, particularly in digitalisation.
“Departments have also been managing their responsibilities according to the allocations provided, so there are no issues on that front,” he added.
He told the media this when met on the sidelines after officiating at the Public Service Day 2025 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
In his keynote address, Abang Johari said Sarawak’s development success depended on strong cooperation between the state and federal civil services.
Although both operated under different administrative structures, he said their shared goal remains the same – delivering the best services to the people.
He asserted that the unity between the two systems reflected the true spirit of Malaysia: diverse yet aligned in purpose.
“The contributions of officers in education, health, finance and enforcement are vital in ensuring the wellbeing of our people.
“This cooperation must be strengthened through open communication, proper coordination, and mutual respect for each other’s roles,” he added.
“That way, we can ensure a more comprehensive, efficient and effective public service delivery at all levels.”
