On the morning of the 12th, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with King Felipe VI of Spain, who is on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi Jinping stated that China is willing to work with Spain to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, to build an all-round strategic partnership with greater international influence, and called for maintaining free trade rules and the international economic and trade order. The two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of 10 cooperation documents in fields such as trade, science and technology, and education after the meeting.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China cherishes its traditional friendship with Spain, values Spain’s unique role in international and regional affairs, and is willing to work together with Spain to build an all-round strategic partnership that is more steadfast, dynamic, and influential.
Xi Jinping stated that both parties should maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic guidance, and ensure that the bilateral relationship is always on the right track. Practical cooperation should be further promoted; China is willing to import more high-quality Spanish products, tap cooperation potential in emerging fields such as new energy, digital economy, and artificial intelligence, and expand mutual investment. Both sides can also complement each other's strengths and jointly explore third-party markets such as Latin America. China will continue to extend its visa-free policy for Spain.
Xi Jinping also mentioned that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. As the world enters a new period of turbulence and change, China is willing to work with Spain to support the UN's core role in international affairs, uphold free trade rules and the international economic and trade order, build a fairer and more reasonable global governance system, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Since the visit of Spanish King Juan Carlos I to China in 2007, this is King Felipe VI's first visit to China.
Felipe VI stated that the Spanish government firmly adheres to the One-China policy, supports the maintenance of national territorial integrity, and is willing to promote the continued development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries with China. Spain is willing to maintain close exchanges with China and strengthen cooperation in trade, industry, science and technology, and green energy.
He also emphasized that history can only move forward, not backward. China and Spain share highly aligned views on many international issues; both support multilateralism and advocate resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation. Spain is willing to work with China to jointly address uncertainties in the international situation, safeguard the international trade order, and promote stable development of the global economy.
