(Miri, 17th) — The Northern Sarawak Press Association will be holding the beach cleaning event "Love Our Beach, Love Our Miri 2.0" on October 12th (Sunday) from 6:15am to 10:00am at the Luak Bay Recreational Walkway seafront in Miri. All group organizations and associations are welcome to register teams to participate and contribute to the Miri community.
To ensure smooth implementation of the event, the organizing committee has set up a preparatory team, with the association's Treasurer and Former President Yang Wan Yong as the Preparatory Committee Chairperson, Fan Wenqi as Secretary, and Norlica as Treasurer.
This morning, Preparatory Committee Chairperson Yang Wan Yong led the preparatory committee members to visit Miri City Council Mayor Yii Siu Chin at the City Council headquarters, reporting event details and inviting the City Council to serve as a supporting entity.
Yang Wan Yong stated that the preparatory committee plans to mobilize more than 100 participants, encouraging government agencies, NGOs, associations, and community groups to register teams, each with 8 people. The registration deadline is September 22nd. All registrants will receive a free T-shirt and certificate, and the organizer will also provide garbage bags, gloves, and refreshments.
He said that this event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Northern Sarawak Press Association and the 20th anniversary of Miri’s elevation to city status. The aim is to maintain the cleanliness of Miri’s coastal environment, attract tourists, and raise community awareness on environmental hygiene. The event also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Clean Water and Sanitation, Sustainable Cities, Climate Action, Life Below Water, Life on Land, and Partnership for the Goals.
Currently, registered units include Fire and Rescue Department Zone 6 of Sarawak, Miri Civil Defense Force, Miri Hakka Association Youth Group, Miri Dabu Association Youth Group, Laksa Runners Club, and Lambir Lions Club.
Cai Chuanjin stated that the beach cleaning event will not only raise public environmental awareness, but also call for everyone to work together to protect Miri’s environment. He pointed out that garbage, plastics, and wood waste often accumulate on the beach due to tides or strong waves, making community maintenance even more necessary.
“Our goal is to help clean the beach, so that tourists leave with a good impression.”
Those interested in registering may contact Yang Wan Yong (014-5902562) or Fan Wenqi (019-8857258).
