A landslide occurred on the Italian island of Sicily, causing the ground to crack over a length of 4 kilometers and forcing more than 1,000 people to evacuate urgently.
The incident happened on the 25th in the southern mountain town of Niscemi. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the accident.
Niscemi's mayor, Conti, stated that continuous rainfall in recent days has kept the area saturated, resulting in ongoing ground slippage.
He said: "The situation is continuing to deteriorate because we have detected further collapses."
Video footage shows a massive fissure at the site, with nearby houses teetering and the landslide also burying the road leading into the town below.
Italy's Civil Protection Department said that all residents within a 4-kilometer radius of the landslide have been evacuated.
Last week, coastal areas of Sicily were struck by Storm 'Harry', causing damage to coastal roads and residential homes.
