(Israel, 5th) The Israeli military has warned that it will launch airstrikes on the Lebanese side of the Masnaa border crossing at the Lebanon-Syria border, and has called for nearby residents to evacuate. Syria subsequently announced the temporary closure of its own side of the crossing.
According to Xinhua News Agency, on Saturday night (April 4), the Israeli military issued an urgent warning, claiming that Hezbollah was using the Masnaa crossing for military activities and smuggling weapons, and requested Lebanese residents to immediately evacuate the crossing and surrounding area.
A Lebanese security source said that, due to the Israeli military's threat, two-way traffic at the Masnaa crossing has been suspended, and on-site personnel as well as freight trucks and other vehicles have withdrawn to the Lebanese side.
The Masnaa crossing is located on a major transportation route connecting the capitals of Lebanon and Syria, Beirut and Damascus. Israeli warplanes previously launched airstrikes around the crossing in October 2024, cutting off the international highway.
The Syrian Interim Government's General Directorate of Border Crossings and Customs issued a statement that evening, announcing the temporary closure of Syria's Jadidat Yabous crossing. The statement emphasized that the crossing is solely for civilian passage, is not used for any military purposes, there are no armed groups or militias present, and it is not permitted to be used for any activities beyond the civil and legal scope.
Additionally, Lebanon's National News Agency reported on Saturday that Israel launched multiple airstrikes the same day on Beirut's southern suburbs and several locations in southern Lebanon, resulting in at least 14 deaths and 25 injuries.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health said that since the rekindling of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel on March 2, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in 1,422 deaths and 4,294 injuries.
In addition, the Israel Defense Forces stated on Saturday that in the early hours of Friday (the 3rd), at around 3 a.m., a "friendly fire" incident occurred in southern Lebanon. At that time, an Israeli commando unit entered a village to arrest "a person suspected of assisting Hezbollah." During the operation, one Israeli soldier mistakenly shot at two fellow soldiers, thinking they were "suspects attempting to escape," resulting in one death and one serious injury.
