GD Caught in Copyright Controversy, Netizens Mock: ‘Still Arguing Over Something from When He Was 13?’

K-Pop superstar GD (G-Dragon, Kwon Ji-yong) has recently found himself swept up in a controversy! According to Korean media outlet Yonhap News Agency, composer A claimed last November that GD and former “YG Entertainment” CEO Yang Hyun-suk had used his work without permission. The case is currently being investigated by Seoul police.

The report states that police have searched “YG Entertainment” headquarters and other locations twice, and that the case is still under investigation. Composer A revealed that he released a single called “G-DRAGON” in 2001, which GD allegedly adapted on his 2009 album “Shine a Light,” changing the title to “My Age is 13,” adding it along with other songs without notification or crediting the original composer, sparking controversy.

However, “YG Entertainment” explained that during preparations for GD’s 2009 concert, there were two songs with the same name, which caused confusion in labeling and emphasized that it was not an unauthorized use of the song. Some netizens pointed out that it was only performed at the concert and no audio was officially released, urging YG to resolve the matter. “Turns out it’s about something GD did when he was 13 years old — the statute of limitations must have already expired,” one said.
