Nike Sues Edison Chen for Breach of Contract—Compensation Amount Takes a Stunning Turn

In 2023, news broke that Edison Chen would be parting ways with Nike, causing quite a stir in the fashion and sneaker communities. Unexpectedly, by October of the same year, he made a high-profile announcement of joining adidas, formally bringing an end to his nearly 20-year-long partnership with Nike—and swiftly launched a collaborative shoe collection, making waves around the globe.

However, the aftermath of this partnership has recently drawn attention again. Sneaker Legal released information on the X platform, revealing that Nike has officially filed a lawsuit against Edison Chen in California, accusing him of breach of contract and seeking over $126 million USD (about 530 million MYR) in damages—a figure described as astronomical. Yet, the case has taken a dramatic turn: the latest information indicates a clerical error in the court documents, and the actual claim for compensation should be $126,000 USD (about 532,000 MYR) instead.

Edison Chen collaborated with Nike for nearly two decades, resulting in multiple classic and highly collectible co-branded shoes—including the CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death”, CLOT x Air Force 1 Low, and several sensational Air Jordan collaborations. These creations created a global buzz in the streetwear scene and solidified CLOT’s status within international sneaker culture.

However, by the end of 2024, CLOT announced a shift to adidas, and the first wave of co-branded products—including a special edition Superstar—will be released in early 2025, followed by collaborations with BLACKPINK member Jennie and NBA stars.
