(Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st) The Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Brunei Institute of Certified Public Accountants (BICPA) held an accounting profession roadshow at the Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre theatre.
This roadshow was aimed at the students of the school, with the goal of giving them a preliminary understanding of the accounting industry, sparking their interest, and encouraging them to plan their academic paths for pursuing an accounting career after graduation.
In his welcoming remarks, Acting Commissioner of the Revenue Division at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Muhammad Hassainol, emphasized the importance of the accounting profession. He pointed out that although the demand for certified public accountants and auditors continues to increase, Brunei still faces a shortage of these professionals.
He also noted that accountants play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy of financial records, preventing the loss of funds, and supporting effective financial governance. He encouraged students to consider a career in accounting to contribute to economic development and the realization of Brunei Vision 2035.
The event specially invited BICPA Academy Chairwoman, Lucy Lau, to share her experiences and career journey as an accountant.
She also stressed the importance of obtaining globally recognized qualifications (such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification), and outlined the various career opportunities in the accounting field, including auditors, tax consultants, financial analysts, and advisory consultants.
In addition to the sharing session, students and speakers participated in interactive activities aimed at deepening their understanding of the accounting field. The subsequent Q&A session provided space for further discussion and clarification on the topics raised.
This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Brunei Ministry of Finance and Economy and BICPA to promote the development of the accounting profession and support the cultivation of future talent in Brunei's financial and professional accounting services sector.
