(Kuching, 5th) The Sarawak government, through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing religious harmony and developing religious infrastructure in Sarawak.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas stated that since 2017, RM385 million has been allocated for the development of houses of worship for various religions, including Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Sikhism, Bahá'í, and other traditional religions.
“In 2024, RM110 million will be allocated for Sarawak's houses of worship and 120 mission schools, benefiting 39,371 students and 3,201 teachers. Since 2021, the Unit for Other Religions has approved 2,255 projects, with 909 completed, 654 ongoing, and 563 at the reporting stage.”
Douglas made these remarks while attending this year's appreciation dinner for the Unit for Other Religions.
In this regard, he also urged project applicants to complete the reporting process to expedite implementation.
He said the Unit for Other Religions is also assessing 640 additional applications, totaling RM431 million, to align with Sarawak's goal of becoming advanced by 2030.
Meanwhile, he emphasized that close cooperation between people's representatives, religious leaders, and government agencies remains the main pillar of ensuring the success of the Unit for Other Religions, which continues to symbolize Sarawak's efforts to promote religious harmony and comprehensive development.
