(Bandar Seri Begawan, 7th) Dr. Liu Shiquan, President of the Brunei Fuzhou Shiyi Association, sincerely thanked the Guest of Honour, H.E. Xiao Jianguo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Brunei, for taking the time out of his busy schedule to personally attend the 7th National Chinese On-the-Spot Composition Competition Award Ceremony, providing tremendous support and encouragement. This has become an important driving force for the organizers to continue holding the event.

He also expressed gratitude to the co-organizing unit, Ma-lai-yi Fuzhou Association, Village Chief Huang Linming and his team for their full assistance, which ensured the smooth and successful conclusion of the competition.

Liu Shiquan pointed out that this year’s competition was successfully held in June and received enthusiastic response. A total of 417 students nationwide actively registered, setting a new record for participation, fully demonstrating Bruneian primary school students’ passion and talent for Chinese creative writing, which is very gratifying.

He also especially thanked the co-organizers, as well as the principals and teachers of various Chinese schools for their hard work and selfless dedication. It is precisely their efforts in education that have cultivated batch after batch of outstanding students, injecting new vitality into Chinese creative writing.

Liu Shiquan emphasized that trilingual education is an excellent tradition of Brunei’s Chinese schools. Nowadays, as most schools reduce the use of Chinese, many students mainly converse in English on campus. He suggested that each school hold a "Chinese Language Week" every year to encourage students to communicate in Chinese on campus, and to hold various Chinese competitions in conjunction, in order to stimulate students’ interest and improve their language ability.

He noted that, as Chinese culture rises and the Chinese language becomes increasingly widespread, Chinese has become one of the most widely used languages in the world. "We hope that Chinese will continue its positive development trend, enabling the younger generation to confidently use Chinese, inheriting the essence and virtues of Chinese culture, and passing them on from generation to generation."

He concluded by wishing all award-winning students continued diligence in their studies, to continue demonstrating their passion and talent for Chinese creative writing, and looked forward to all sectors of society jointly promoting the development of Chinese education and contributing to cultural heritage.
