PUTRAJAYA, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- A series of roadshows to gather public feedback on the proposed establishment of the Anti-Bullying Tribunal will begin tomorrow, says Communications Minister and MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who chairs the Special Committee on Bullying, will lead the first roadshow in Putrajaya.
“I will be attending, as will Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Among those involved are the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP), teachers from various states, and representatives of Parent-Teacher Associations at various levels.
“Also participating are the Children’s Commission, government agencies, legal practitioners and school counsellors, and it is open to the public,” he said at a post-Cabinet meeting press conference here today.
Fahmi said the roadshows would also be held in other states, including Negeri Sembilan on Sept 17, Selangor (Sept 18), Johor (Sept 19) and Melaka on Sept 22.
“With regard to the exact dates and venue details, the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) will publish the information soon,” he said.
Fahmi had earlier said the roadshows would be held nationwide to gather feedback on the proposed establishment of the Anti-Bullying Tribunal, in efforts to ensure Malaysia had a strong, fair and effective bullying prevention mechanism.
In a previous statement, BHEUU said the drafting of the Anti-Bullying Tribunal Bill was among the proposals discussed at the Meeting on Efforts to Strengthen Bullying Prevention Mechanisms in Malaysia.
The meeting also examined ways to reinforce the existing legal framework by incorporating elements of rehabilitation and child protection, ensuring that the legal system practised was not solely focused on punitive measures.
