(Miri, 27th) Miri Huaguang Temple will organize the “Year of Bingwu Miri Huaguang Temple Ullambana Grand Ceremony” on August 27 (15th day of the 7th lunar month, Thursday). Preparations are progressing smoothly, and all devotees, Dharma protectors, and disciples are welcome to enthusiastically participate—together worshipping Buddha, chanting sutras, dedicating merits to ancestors, and planting vast fields of blessings.
Preparatory Committee Chairman Chai Song Sheng stated that this year’s ceremony specially invites Venerable Shi Shang Zheng Xia Ding, the abbot of Raub Qingliang Monastery in Peninsula Malaysia, as the chief presiding Dharma teacher. He will be joined by Venerables Shi Dang Yuan, Shi Xuan Xing, and Shi Ru Fa to co-host this year's Ullambana ceremony.
He expressed the committee’s sincere gratitude to all the Venerable Masters for their compassionate acceptance to preside with their excellent Dharma virtues, widely providing Dharma benefit, blessing sentient beings, and accruing immeasurable merit.
Chai Song Sheng pointed out that holding the grand Ullambana ceremony aims to dedicate and deliver merit for generations of ancestors, past creditors, solitary souls of all directions, spirits of the six realms, local deities, and infant spirits. At the same time, the ceremony seeks to dispel calamities and plant blessings for all current family members, praying for favorable weather, peace and prosperity for the nation, harmony among people, safety from epidemics, and various disasters.
He added that this year’s Ullambana festival will feature a rich program. In addition to a series of Buddhist ceremonies, there will also be July song stage variety performances to enhance the lively atmosphere.
During the ceremony, devotees may offer incense, pay homage to the Buddha, and pray for blessings. Jinlu (Golden Furnace, RM500), Yinlu (Silver Furnace, RM300), and Regular Furnace (RM30) are available for public reservation to dedicate merit for ancestors, creditors, infant spirits, and solitary wandering souls.
He stated that participating in the dedication ceremony not only allows for remembrance of ancestors but also helps resolve past grudges, and prays for career success, family safety, increased blessings and wisdom, and overall auspiciousness.
Additionally, the highlight of the celebration will be the traditional “Qiang Gu” (Spirit Pole Climbing) event, expected to conclude at 11:30 pm.
Chai Song Sheng also called on devotees to attend the “Purification Ceremony” at 3:00 pm on the 14th day of the 7th lunar month (August 26, Wednesday), to purify the Dharma grounds and pray all beings sustain the Dharma, so that those participating will have peace of mind and body, free from vexations.
According to the event schedule, the Purification Ceremony will be held at 3:00 pm on the 14th day of the 7th lunar month, followed by chanting of the Upper Volume of the Earth Store Sutra at 3:30 pm, and the Lower Volume at 7:00 pm. On the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, morning prayers (Shurangama Mantra) will begin at 8:00 am, Grand Buddha Offering at 10:30 am, and the Great Meng Shan Food Offering and Deliverance Ceremony at 6:00 pm.
