(Kuala Lumpur, 29th) Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Fadillah said that an independent, responsible, and ethically principled media is a strategic partner for the nation in ensuring Malaysia continues to maintain stability, harmony, and progress.

He said that journalists play a significant role in consolidating the democratic system and building a society with knowledge and information literacy, especially as today's media landscape becomes increasingly challenging and rapidly changing.

He said the government has always recognized the important role of media organizations in national development, and that close, collaborative cooperation between the government and media practitioners helps to more effectively communicate national policies and development agendas to the people.

"Amid an increasingly challenging and rapidly changing media landscape, the role of journalists is not just to deliver news, but also to serve as an important bridge between the people and the government."

In conjunction with the 2026 National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) celebration, Fadillah today posted on his Facebook page to thank all journalists, media practitioners, and broadcasting employees, expressing gratitude for their efforts in delivering accurate, truthful, and trustworthy information to the people.

He also thanked journalists for their dedication at the frontlines during disasters and crises, ensuring that the public receives truthful and balanced information.

He highlighted the challenges posed by the spread of fake news, rumors, and sensationalism in today's digital age, urging media practitioners to continue upholding news principles based on fact, integrity, and responsibility.

He hopes that the national media industry can continue to develop alongside technological advancement, while not neglecting ethics, professionalism, and humanity.

"Journalists are not only recorders of history, but also one of the key figures in shaping social consciousness and the nation's future."

The 2026 National Journalists' Day celebration will be relocated to Penang on June 20 this year, with the theme "Integrity in Media, The Foundation of Public Trust," aiming to strengthen the role of media practitioners in national development.

The summit of this annual celebration will be held at the Perai Industrial Convention and Conference Arena (PICCA), with Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar officiating the opening.
