(Miri, 23rd) Miri Member of Parliament CHIEW CHOON MAN visited residents affected by floods and landslides in Kampung Lereng Bukit last week with Kamil, the political secretary to the Malaysian Minister of Finance.
He said that in this meaningful program, they visited residents affected by landslides and provided assistance to the families of landslide victims. They also collaborated with various agencies to organize activities with local residents to clean up the affected areas.
"The recent flood and landslide disasters have had a significant impact on the public, especially the elderly and those with limited resources. The 'Menyantuni Rakyat' program is held to alleviate their burden. We understand that post-disaster rebuilding requires not only material assistance but also the spiritual support and care of the surrounding community."
He stated that the Gotong-Royong program organized was a collective effort aimed at ensuring that the environment in the affected areas can be cleaned and restored more quickly. This activity not only aids in cleanliness and safety but also strengthens the spirit of unity among local residents. Through joint efforts, we can ease the burden of recovery work and show solidarity to the disaster victims.
Additionally, they also provided support and post-disaster aid to residents in Pujut and Kampung Sinatin areas affected by landslides and floods. The plan aims to help alleviate the burden of the affected people, especially the elderly, disabled (OKU), and families who have suffered property damage and loss of basic necessities due to the disaster. The assistance provided includes food, daily necessities, and financial donations to help them rebuild their lives.
CHIEW CHOON MAN hopes that this aid can offer some help to flood victims in the area. Besides that, I would like to express my sympathy to all those affected and assure you that we will continue to face these difficult times with you.
"As the Member of Parliament for Miri, I will continue to commit to helping those in need, especially vulnerable groups in such disasters. We will also continue to strive to enhance disaster prevention measures to reduce the risk of similar events in the future."
