Jay Chou Reveals Reason for 7-Year Gap Before Returning to Perform in Taiwan, Admits Being Too Willful: "I'm a Dilemma King"

Superstar Jay Chou (also known as 'Jie Lun') finally kicked off his Taipei concert yesterday (5th) after a 7-year hiatus, making it the first personal concert held at the Taipei Dome. He couldn't hide his excitement, stating this was a day worth commemorating. Jay Chou mentioned that he considered many venues for his concert, "For example, Kaohsiung is good too, or even a campus show would work. A street concert would also be OK, I've thought about all these." But he jokingly admitted he was very willful: "I thought, if they won't let me perform at the Dome, then I won't sing, because I'm a willful and conflicted person, hence I'm a Dilemma King." This made everyone burst into laughter, even making himself laugh.

Jay Chou expressed that, due to his fashion store, he often passed by the Eastern district, thinking, "When will this (Taipei Dome) be finished?" and then thought, "Forget it, who knows when it will be done. Maybe it will be done and someone else will perform there first. But one day the company told me there might be a chance." He then further explained, "I thought, if there's a chance to perform, why not come back and sing." This finally explains why Jay Chou waited 7 years to perform in Taipei.

Welcoming Chi Hsien to Fevered Reactions

Towards the end of the concert, Jay Chou specially introduced the VIP guests sitting in the audience. Among them, his friend Aken played along humorously as a compere. Pop diva "Second Sister" Chi Hsien, whom he regards as a sister, unexpectedly appeared in the VIP seats, causing the entire audience to erupt with screams that nearly shook the dome's roof.

Jay Chou later said, "Second Sister should be very familiar with my songs. Is there any classic song you'd like to dedicate to the fans?" Chi Hsien interactively replied, "I think 'Starry Mood' is very nice." The two then sang a duet, with Jay Chou personally stepping off the stage to greet Chi Hsien. They walked towards each other from opposite ends of the stage, resembling the reunion of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, finally embracing warmly, creating a heartwarming moment.

Clarifying "Domestic Violence Father" Rumors from "Dad, I'm Back"

Furthermore, aside from Jay Chou's mother Ye Huimei attending, his wife Hannah Quinlivan and her grandfather were also present to witness this significant moment of Jay Chou's performance at the Taipei Dome. In fact, Jay Chou's father was also in the audience, and he personally addressed the "domestic violence" rumors. The lyrics of "Dad, I'm Back" include "I call you Dad and you hit my mom, is that right?" and "Don't hit my mom again, would you listen to what I say?" On stage, Jay Chou said, "Upon hearing this song, relatives on my father's side asked: ‘Why did you write about your dad like that?’ Actually, it's a friend's story, and later I wrote ‘In the Name of the Father’ to clarify this matter."
