South Korean girl group BLACKPINK member ROSe released her first solo album 'rosie' today (6th), featuring her globally popular pre-release singles 'APT.' with Bruno Mars and the second pre-release single 'number one girl.' This year's mind-blowing hit 'APT.' stayed at the top spot on the Billboard Global Chart for 6 weeks and surpassed 1.6 billion streams worldwide, while the second pre-release track 'number one girl' also surpassed 1 billion global streams.
In a recent interview, ROSe discussed the inspiration behind the creation of 'number one girl,' which stems from her feelings towards negative online comments. "This song was created the day after I attended a certain event. Although I was grateful to participate in these events, I felt empty. I kept thinking, 'What am I chasing?'" She recalled: "That night, I began scrolling through social media comments, even deliberately looking for the ones that made me feel bad... I was disappointed in myself because I was taught to be confident and not influenced by others since I was young." The song as a whole expresses a 'toxic relationship,' she added: "I was overly concerned about people who don't know me, who are not kind to me, yet I couldn't stop caring." Additionally, 'Toxic ’till the End' is about her ex; she previously mentioned that this song was originally intended to be titled 'Ex' and revealed that she had arguments with her ex during BLACKPINK tours, describing it as "the worst time of her life."
