A man from Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand, who was wanted for theft and penniless, has confessed to killing his ex-wife and her parents, burying their bodies in a cassava plantation. He admitted that he needed money to satisfy his gambling habit, so he went to their house to steal valuables.

According to the latest reports from Thai media and international sources, this tragic family murder occurred in Village 8, Phaisali District, Nakhon Pathom Province. On June 30, the village chief reported to Phaisali Police Station that a family of three had gone missing: a 78-year-old man, his 69-year-old wife, and their 43-year-old daughter.

When officers investigated their home, they found the house locked and empty, but signs of forced entry were visible on the back door leading to the kitchen, and the home’s security cameras had been damaged.

Investigators managed to retrieve footage showing the 43-year-old victim Piwapon’s ex-husband, Samat, entering the house at around 2:30 a.m. on June 30.

Police stated that the footage showed the suspect driving away in the victims’ pickup truck, which led officers to focus their investigation on him.

Arrested at a Hotel in Pattaya

Further investigation tracked the vehicle to Pathum Thani Province, where it was abandoned. Samat was then found to have checked into a hotel in Pattaya. On July 2, police apprehended him at the hotel.

Police revealed that during interrogation, Samat confessed to killing the family of three and burying their bodies in a cassava plantation.

Investigators said that Samat told police he forcibly broke into his ex-wife’s house with the intention of stealing cash or valuables to cover his expenses and gambling.

Samat claimed that shortly after entering the house that night, he encountered his ex-father-in-law and stabbed him to death. The other two victims, hearing the commotion, came to investigate and were also killed by him.

Had Stolen from Ex-Wife’s Home Twice Before

Police said the suspect admitted he had previously stolen from his ex-wife’s home twice: the first time on April 21, taking 114,000 Thai baht in cash, and the second on May 8, involving 32,000 baht.

After committing the murders, to cover up his crime, Samat loaded the three bloody bodies into the victims’ pickup truck and drove to a remote cassava plantation about two kilometers away. He dug a deep pit and hastily buried all three. On the afternoon of July 2, police escorted Samat in prison garb back to the crime scene and cassava field to identify the burial site. With police and forensic experts digging, they unearthed the bodies beneath soil that had evidently been freshly dug and refilled. The case is now in judicial proceedings.
