Xia Baolong, Director of the Central Government’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office and Director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, met with veterans of the Hong Kong political scene before concluding his return visit, and stated at the meeting that responsibility will be pursued for the Hung Fuk Estate fire.
In addition to Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, other attendees at the tea gathering included former NPC Standing Committee members Tam Yiu-chung and Rita Fan, former Vice Chairpersons of the Hong Kong Basic Law Committee Elsie Leung and Maria Tam, advisor to the China National Hong Kong and Macao Research Association Lau Siu-kai, Executive Council Convenor Regina Ip, and Executive Council member Ronny Tong.
Regina Ip relayed Xia Baolong’s remarks, saying that the central government appreciates the HKSAR government’s follow-up work in relation to the Hung Fuk Estate fire, but at the same time reiterated that responsibility of interest groups must be held accountable, although no specific targets were mentioned.
Xia Baolong concluded his two-day inspection and research visit to Hong Kong on Wednesday afternoon.
