(Kuala Lumpur, 2nd) There are widespread claims that the contractor caused a natural gas pipe leak in Putra Heights leading to an explosion during excavation works. The police clarified today that once the involved contractor is identified, they will be summoned for investigation.
Subang Jaya Police District Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan, said the police have not yet summoned any contractors as they are still in the process of identifying the entity and involved parties.
“Once the investigation is completed, follow-up actions will be taken, including verifying with local authorities and Petronas if a work permit was issued.”
He made these comments today at the Disaster Control Station (PKTK), in response to media queries regarding social media speculation that excavation by contractors nearby caused the gas pipe explosion.
Additionally, Wan Azlan mentioned that the police have recorded statements from those injured being treated in the hospital and residents temporarily housed in evacuation centers.
He also confirmed that a few affected houses still have embers, so the Fire and Rescue Department has deployed a fire truck and six firefighters to continue monitoring to prevent the spread of fire.
“The Fire and Rescue Department will thoroughly assess the damage to these houses and standby in case of potential fires.
“There could be embers in the affected houses that might ignite a fire, and we don’t want the fire to spread to other homes.”
Furthermore, Wan Azlan stated that only residents with lower impact damage are currently allowed to return home to gather necessities and important documents with the assistance of the fire department.
“As for other affected residents, please be patient, we will keep you updated regularly.”
He also noted that the K9 unit and the Bukit Aman Forensic Investigation Team are involved in assessing the disaster site, focusing on criminal issues, and assured the 24-hour protection of residents' property safety.
