During talks with South Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ahn Duk-geun, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao said that both sides should ensure the stability and smoothness of China-Korea industry and supply chains, and promote the early resumption of China-Japan-South Korea Free Trade Agreement negotiations.
According to a statement on the website of China’s Ministry of Commerce on Sunday (November 2), Wang Wentao met Ahn Duk-geun last Saturday (November 1) in Gyeongju, South Korea. The two sides exchanged views on maintaining stability in industrial and supply chains, as well as strengthening regional and multi/bilateral cooperation.
Wang Wentao said that China and South Korea are important neighbors and partners. China is willing to work with South Korea to jointly implement important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries and promote new developments in China-South Korea economic and trade relations.
Both sides should strengthen communication and coordination through the China-Korea industrial and supply chain cooperation hotline, export control dialogue, trade remedy cooperation mechanism, and other channels to ensure the stability and smooth functioning of the China-Korea industry and supply chains; strengthen cooperation under the frameworks of the World Trade Organization, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, etc.; promote the early resumption of China-Japan-South Korea FTA negotiations; and jointly safeguard free trade and multilateralism.

According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, Ahn Duk-geun said that South Korea is willing to work with China to speed up the second phase of negotiations for the Korea-China Free Trade Agreement.
