KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy President, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, has clarified that the party had nothing to do with a viral video showing a man from Miri allegedly campaigning in Sabah while wearing a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) shirt and claiming to represent PDP.
He confirmed that the individual, known as Datuk Kho, is indeed a PDP member but stressed that the man had acted entirely on his own accord.
“He went without any advice, instruction or information given to the party,” Henry told reporters during a PDP delegation visit to the wake service of Puan Sri Datin Amar Lim Su Kheng, the late mother of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, at the latter’s family residence today.
Henry then added that PDP strictly adheres to GPS’ firm directive prohibiting members from campaigning in Sabah.
“We never sent anyone to Sabah. That is not our stand. No GPS member should go to Sabah for campaigning,” he said, adding that the matter would be referred to the party’s disciplinary committee.
He said the committee would decide on the appropriate action as this is the first time such an incident has occurred.
“We will sit in the committee. I cannot decide. Because this has never happened before,” he said.
Henry noted that PDP has never sent representatives to campaign in any by-election outside Sarawak, including in the peninsula, as the party follows GPS leadership directives.
He added that GPS leadership has been informed of the matter, with the PDP president already contacted on the issue.
“We will bring this up to our disciplinary committee and also discuss it in our upcoming Supreme Council meeting,” he said.
Reiterating the coalition’s stance, he stressed that Sabah’s political affairs are entirely separate from GPS, saying the coalition has no involvement there.
Earlier, a viral video posted by Facebook user ‘Jiwa Rakyat’ showed PDP member, Datuk Kho, claiming he was in Sabah with 10 others to help Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, in the ongoing state election campaign.
Polling for the Sabah election is scheduled for November 29, with early voting on November 25.
