PADAWAN: The Sarawak Government will roll out the Borneo Highlands Acute Water Supply System Phase 2 to extend clean water access to more rural communities in the Padawan Sub-District, particularly within the Mambong constituency.
Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the RM12.6-million acute water supply project in Kampung Bengoh has already benefited several villages in the constituency, including Kampung Jambu and surrounding areas that previously experienced frequent low water pressure issues.
He said the water supply network would continue to be expanded to Kampung Petag, Kampung Sitang, Kampung Bangau and SK Sitang Petag to ensure more residents have access to the essential utility.
“To ensure more comprehensive coverage, the government is planning to implement the Borneo Highlands Acute Water Supply System Phase 2, which will establish a new distribution centre in Kampung Sapit,” he said.
He said this during the Majlis Merun Kasah Gawai Padawan Sub-District here on Friday (June 26).
Dr Jerip added that water from the second phase would subsequently be channelled to Kampung Assum, Kampung Parang and nearby areas, despite challenges related to water pressure that are currently being addressed in stages.
In a separate development, he said the installation of streetlights from the Puncak Borneo Prison junction to Kampung Garung had been completed, while works along the stretch from Kampung Garung to Kampung Annah Rais would be expedited under the next phase.
On the economic front, he said an integrated development approach was also being promoted through the tourism and agriculture sectors, including the development of coffee cultivation projects in Bayur Jambu to help boost the income of local communities.
“We want this development to have a direct impact on the income and well-being of the people,” he said.
He also stressed that cooperation among all stakeholders was vital to ensure Sarawak’s development continues to progress in an inclusive and sustainable manner, particularly in rural areas such as Padawan.
