(Kuching, 27th) Sarawak Energy Berhad has planted a total of 58,687 trees this year across its main operational areas in support of Sarawak’s green agenda, moving towards building a healthier ecosystem.
Sarawak Energy stated in a press release that since the commencement of its tree planting activities in 2021, the cumulative number of trees planted has exceeded 247,355.
The statement said that Sarawak Energy will continue to reinforce its tree planting and protection efforts, and advance habitat conservation actions in line with activities planned for the 2021–2030 period. This progress also reflects Sarawak Energy’s long-term commitment to plant and protect 500,000 trees within ten years.
This year’s tree planting activities took place at several key locations, including Batang Ai, Murum, and Bakun hydropower plants, as well as the Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu.
In addition, Sarawak Energy has identified several community areas for site rehabilitation purposes, selecting them through consultation with relevant partners to continue supporting habitat restoration efforts.
Community partners such as non-governmental organizations, schools, and local agencies have also played important roles, working closely with Sarawak Energy to raise public awareness of environmental conservation, while driving long-term habitat restoration efforts in their respective areas.
Sarawak Energy Chief Operating Officer Dato’ James Ung stated that the plan demonstrates the company’s responsibility to make positive contributions to the environment and community.
He said: “Tree planting is not just an environmental initiative, but also helps maintain ecosystem health, improve environmental quality, and enhance the resilience of surrounding communities.”
“We fully recognize that development and environmental protection must go hand in hand, and this program is part of Sarawak Energy’s efforts in one of our social investment focus areas—environmental management.”
He added that Sarawak Energy will continue to work closely with the government, relevant agencies, local communities, schools, and environmental partners to achieve the goal of planting 500,000 trees.
“We will continue to collaborate with partners and stakeholders to ensure that each tree planting activity makes a tangible contribution to long-term ecological restoration. The goal of 500,000 trees is not just about meeting a target, but about responsibly rehabilitating habitats, strengthening climate resilience, and bringing lasting environmental value to Sarawak.”
