The Chinese Embassy in Japan has once again issued a notice, reminding Chinese citizens in Japan to pay attention to personal safety. The notice states that recently, the public security environment in certain regions of Japan has been unstable. Multiple incidents of attempted murder and social revenge cases have occurred in areas such as Fukuoka Prefecture, Shizuoka Prefecture, and Aichi Prefecture.
Late on the night of the 3rd, the embassy stated that several Chinese citizens living in Japan had reported being verbally abused and assaulted without cause, resulting in injuries. On December 31, 2025, a vehicle-ramming incident occurred in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Two Chinese citizens were seriously injured after being hit and were subsequently rushed to hospital for treatment.
The notice points out that, as the end of the year and the Spring Festival approach, the Chinese Embassy in Japan once again reminds Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Japan in the near future, and again urges Chinese citizens in Japan to stay vigilant, pay close attention to local public security situations, and effectively enhance safety awareness and self-protection. In the event of targeted or discriminatory incidents, be sure to preserve evidence, report to the police in a timely manner, and contact the Chinese embassy or consulates in Japan for assistance.
Kyodo News reported at the end of last month that, according to interviews with industry insiders, Chinese authorities have instructed major travel agencies in China to reduce the number of visa applications for Japan, cutting tourist numbers to 60% of previous levels.
The report says the Chinese government’s reminder to its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan and the reduction of Chinese tourists may be intended to hit Japan’s tourism industry.
