(US, 11th) US Treasury Secretary Bessent has reportedly become a potential candidate for the new Chairman of the Federal Reserve, but the White House denies this claim.
Bloomberg reported on Tuesday (June 10th) citing insiders that Bessent has made it to the list of potential successors to Fed Chairman Powell. Other possible candidates include former Fed Governor Walsh, who had interviewed for the Treasury Secretary position.
However, Reuters reported that a White House official immediately denied the above news, stating that Bloomberg's report is false.
US President Trump said last Friday (6th) that he would soon appoint the new Federal Reserve Chairman. Bloomberg quoted two insiders as saying that the formal interviews for this position have not yet begun.
Bessent is leading Trump's global trade reform plan and is involved in promoting tax and regulatory reforms. In response to Bloomberg's request for comment, he said, "I have the best job in Washington. The President will decide who is most beneficial for the economy and the American people."
