Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan stated that criticism from retired Thai Major General Rangsi Kitiyan Sapp against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar's remarks will not affect bilateral relations between Malaysia and Thailand, and there is no need to amplify the individual's comments.
Rangsi Kitiyan Sapp criticized Anwar as a traitor, harboring enemies and spies, and interfering in Thailand’s domestic affairs.
Mohamad Hassan pointed out that the views expressed by the retired military officer do not represent the position of the Thai government.
“Bangkok has also publicly stated that Malaysia-Thailand relations remain positive and stable.”
He said that Malaysia has always adhered to principles of mature diplomacy, mutual respect, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and peaceful resolution. Prime Minister Anwar and the government continue to maintain close communication with Bangkok.
He said that Malaysia has always played a constructive role in regional affairs, including efforts to ease tensions during the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.
“As the ASEAN Chair, Malaysia played a coordinating role at the request of both Cambodia and Thailand, strengthened regional diplomatic mechanisms, and promoted dialogue-based solutions. This move received international recognition and reflects Malaysia's strong commitment to ASEAN's peace and stability.”
He said the government believes that individual remarks should not be exaggerated. Malaysia will continue to strive to strengthen bilateral relations, deepen security cooperation, and expand economic ties for the benefit of both peoples.
He made this statement in a written reply in Parliament to Senator Abdul Nasir’s inquiry to the Foreign Minister regarding the government's stance and actions on retired Thai Major General Rangsi Kitiyan Sapp's criticism of the Prime Minister, as it might affect Malaysia's national image and diplomatic relations at the international level.
