(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) During the nationwide joint enforcement of the “Clean Election Operation” carried out simultaneously in all Brunei districts and cities from June 16th to 30th this year, a total of 68 cases of littering and illegal waste dumping were recorded, involving 35 companies and 33 individuals, resulting in a total of $57,800 in fines.
The Brunei-Muara District Office reported that the district recorded 16 violations involving 13 companies and 3 individuals, with a total fine amount of $21,700.
The Tutong District Office recorded 7 cases involving 7 companies, issuing fines totaling $10,000; the Belait District Office recorded 2 cases involving 2 companies, with fines amounting to $4,000.
During the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board's operations, fines totaling $15,800 were issued for 36 violations involving 8 companies and 28 individuals.
The Kuala Belait Municipal Board recorded 7 cases involving 5 companies and 2 individuals, with total fines amounting to $6,300.
The “Clean Election Operation” is a national clean-up enforcement campaign jointly carried out by enforcement officers from all districts and municipal boards, focusing on supervising and enforcing Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, particularly targeting acts of littering and illegal dumping of waste in public areas.
The Brunei-Muara District Office reminds the public that individuals and companies who receive fines must complete the clean-up and pay the penalty within 7 days; failure to comply may result in court prosecution.
According to Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, individuals convicted may face a maximum fine of $9,000, up to 12 months imprisonment, or both; companies may face fines of up to $30,000.
