Thailand's Defense Minister Natthapol stated on the 16th that the Thai-Cambodian conflict will not last long, and insisted that imposing fuel and supply restrictions on Cambodia is a necessary measure to end the hostilities.
According to the Thai National News, Natthapol said that the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border is “gradually” progressing according to military plans, and that he has no particular concerns at this time.
In response to foreign concerns over Thailand's blockade of fuel and military supplies to Cambodia, Natthapol firmly stated that Thailand is employing peaceful means.
“We are not using force or killing each other with weapons. These measures aim to limit Cambodia's ability to take action against Thailand.”
He reiterated that Thailand will only agree to a ceasefire once Cambodia has clearly and publicly ceased its hostile actions.
“Any peaceful means that can ensure Cambodia stops its hostile actions may be the best solution.”
When asked how long the border situation might last, Natthapol responded briefly: “Give us a little more time.”
Since December 7th, fierce clashes have erupted once again in the Thai-Cambodian border area, with both sides accusing each other of “opening fire first.”
