Fatal Hit-and-Run Case: Suspect Surrenders

(Kuching, 6th) There has been a new development in the fatal traffic accident involving a cyclist that occurred on May 1st along Jalan Setutong. A 19-year-old male turned himself in to the police yesterday and is believed to be connected to the case.
Kuching District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the suspect surrendered at around 12 noon to the Kuching District Police Headquarters' Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, and was subsequently detained by the police to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He said: "After his arrest, the suspect led police officers to the scene to assist with further investigations."

"He also identified a workshop located at Mile 4, Kuching, where a Proton Satria car, believed to be involved in the accident, was parked," he said in a statement.
He added that urine screening results showed the suspect was not under the influence of drugs.
The police have stated that the 19-year-old male is expected to be charged in court today, with charges including reckless driving causing death under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and for failing to report the accident within the required timeframe under Section 52(2).
"Meanwhile, the Kuching police district thanks the public for providing information that helped prompt the suspect's surrender."
"The police are continuing their investigation to complete the investigation report and to take further legal action," he said.
