Dong Zong Mourns the Victims of the UPSI Bus Accident and Urges the Government to Investigate and Strengthen Supervision

(Kajang, 12th) The tragic accident in Grik, Perak, where 15 students from Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) lost their lives in a bus accident, has deeply saddened the nation. Dong Zong expresses its profound condolences and extends heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased, wishing for the departed to rest in peace and for the injured to recover soon.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dong Zong noted that these students were supposed to be the pillars of the nation's educational future, and their untimely demise is truly regrettable. This tragedy not only highlights multiple concerns such as the safety management of long-distance buses, the quality of drivers, and the supervision of high-risk road sections.
Dong Zong urges the government to form a special task force to thoroughly investigate the causes of the accident and clarify the responsibility. It is also necessary for the relevant authorities to strengthen supervision over long-distance bus operators.
“The government should also review the road designs across the country and make improvements on dangerous sections where accidents frequently occur, installing clear warning signs and street lights to reduce the occurrence of accidents.”
The statement pointed out that within just a month, following the fatal accident that claimed the lives of 9 Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members, another grave traffic accident has occurred, which is indeed shocking.
Dong Zong stated that the authorities have an undeniable responsibility to not only trace the root causes of the accident but also to identify systemic and managerial loopholes, adopting effective measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again. All road users must also enhance their safety awareness to ensure their own and others' driving safety.
The statement emphasized that traffic safety is a major responsibility not only for the government but for all citizens. Whether drivers or pedestrians, everyone should strictly abide by traffic rules, remain vigilant, and drive civilly.
“Only when everyone consciously fulfills their duties can the accident rate be effectively reduced.”
Dong Zong stressed that when the awareness that “traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility” is deeply ingrained in people’s minds, the roadways will become safe passageways, not traps of life's uncertainty.
